The Arts Society Blockley offers a wide range of interesting and stimulating lectures.
We would like to welcome you to our web site and share with you our interest in all aspects of the decorative and fine arts. We belong to the West Mercia Area of The Arts Society (formerly NADFAS). Whilst The Arts Society Blockley is based in the village of Blockley, we have members from all over the Cotswolds and beyond.
Since our inception in 1985 we have provided a full programme of lectures, study days, visits and tours which have covered a vast range of subjects from the detailed examination of a single work of art to the culture and art of a whole period of history. The lecturers who provide this wealth of knowledge have to undergo a very thorough vetting before they are accredited as an Arts Society lecturer so the quality of lectures is very high. Our visits and tours aim to provide an enjoyable and sociable cultural experience, and many of them have been suggested by our own members. They are a great way of meeting new friends with similar interests.
A very important part of the activity of our Society focuses on our contribution to the conservation of our heritage. If this sounds rather grand, we would like to assure you that our groups of Heritage Volunteers have great fun while contributing invaluable work towards the conservation of our local heritage. In an effort to interest young people in the arts, we are currently supporting youngsters who, owing to their family situation, might not otherwise be able to participate in a wide range of artistic activities.
Our lectures normally take place in St George’s Hall, Blockley at 2.45 pm on the third Monday of the month from February to December, with a short Summer break, and we normally have two study days and two visits each year. Tours in the UK and overseas are very popular and provide a great way to absorb art and culture in a sociable setting.
