Kingston Bagpuize House sits in its beautiful garden and parkland in the Vale of the White Horse. The Manor dates back to Saxon times, it was rebuilt in 1542 and has passed through several hands until it was purchased by the current owner’s family in 1939.
It is very much a family home rather than a museum and we have a wonderful opportunity to visit the house with a conducted tour by the owner Virginia Grant.
After lunch there is a tour of the garden closer to the house, which has year-round interest, after which we are free to walk in the woodland which will be carpeted with a spectacular display of naturalised snowdrops.

Coffee/tea and biscuits will be provided on arrival and a lunch with desert and coffee/tea will be provided after the house tour.

There are no concessions for Historic Houses members or Gardeners World 241 ticket holders.

This is a trip for glass enthusiasts and anyone interested in the making and history of glass making in the Stourbridge area.
The Stourbridge Glass Museum is home of the globally significant Stourbridge Glass Collection – glass produced in the local area over a 400 year period. The museum has 2.5D animation and audio exhibits, visiting exhibitions, guided tours and curator talks. Visitors can also see glass making in action, courtesy of Allister Malcolm’s live demonstrations in the Hot Shop.
The visit will be by coach, with coffee/tea and biscuits on arrival. This will be followed by a 40 minute talk by the curator of the Collection. There will be guided tours of the museum in groups of 10-15 lasting about 40 minutes, followed by a buffet lunch within the museum.
There will be an opportunity to visit the Hot Shop and watch glass making in progress and/or visit the Red Cone and craft workshops opposite the museum.
On our way home we will visit the Glasshouse Heritage Centre – a site of abundant local glassmaking history. There are local glass, art and craft workshops within the complex as well as a college, cafe and whole food shop.
We anticipate arriving back at Blockley by 5.30pm
