Our Autumn outing this year is to Ironbridge in Shropshire, the “Birthplace of the industrial Revolution” and a World Heritage Site which includes ten museums.
We shall visit the Coalport China Museum, which has a fine exhibition of Coalport and Caughley china, displayed in the former factory where they were once made.
A soup and sandwich lunch is included, after which we will move on to Jackfield Tile Museum. Once again housed in a former Victorian factory, it is filled with British tiles and settings of domestic and commercial interiors. The museum has recently added the John Scott Gallery to house a collection of tiles by designers such as Pugin, de Morgan, Morris and Dresser.

The price of the outing is £36 (£38 guests) which includes coach transport, entry fees, lunch and tips.
Please send your cheque and the completed booking form by 19 September 2016 to George Derbyshire,

Woburn Abbey and gardens

In Spring 2017 we are planning a visit to Woburn Abbey and Gardens. Woburn Abbey, the home of the Dukes of Bedford, is a magnificent Palladian mansion set in an extensive deer park designed by Humphrey Repton, with attractive gardens adjacent to the house.
Highlights of the collection include the Queen Elizabeth I ‘Armada’ portrait, the largest collection of Venetian scenes by Canaletto anywhere in the world, and a recently authenticated Rembrandt. The family’s gold and silver are displayed in the vaults. Of human interest is the story of Mary – the Flying Duchess of the thirties.
The gardens have been undergoing a programme of restoration in recent years – the Chinese Dairy and the Camelia House (a segmental conservatory) are not to be missed.
And of course a visit to Woburn Abbey affords the opportunity of taking afternoon tea where it was originally popularised!

Please let George Derbyshire know if you are intrested.
