23 - 25 APRIL 2018
Our Spring Getaway is based near Portsmouth, and we shall visit Winchester, Portsmouth Historic Dockyard and Chichester. There will be free time in Winchester and Chichester, giving an opportunity to visit two cathedrals, a historic National Trust watermill and an award-winning art gallery (not to mention King Arthur’s Round Table) and maybe some gentle shopping for those so inclined.
We also include a full day in Portsmouth Historic Dockyard which has a range of attractions. For some, the highlight will be the Mary Rose, in her new museum, for others HMS Victory, or the Victorian battleship HMS Warrior. HMS M33 is a rare survivor of the First World War. Sadly we cannot guarantee our new aircraft carrier, HMS Queen Elizabeth will be in port, though there will be plenty to see on your harbour tour. There are 6 restaurants to choose from for lunch or maybe just sit and watch the boats go by.
In complete contrast, en route to Chichester, we will visit Fishbourne Roman Palace, the largest excavated Roman villa in the country, with its unprecedented range of mosaics from over 20 rooms, all protected in a modern building, and its recreated Roman garden.
